Have you wanted to paint in watercolor? Or have you painted in watercolor, acrylic or gouache and are ready to try something new and exciting? Get energized with the freedom and versatility of painting watercolor paint on Yupo non-absorbent, synthetic paper!  Unlike traditional watercolor, you can blend and lift paint as long as you want–even after the paints are dry! What a thrill to be able to retrieve and create whites without the resist process. In this class, endless creative possibilities are demonstrated in techniques for rich surface textures, luminous washes, spattering, stamping, deepening darks and lifting whites. You will be amazed as your tutor Cate encourages you to relax and let the paint work for you-a magical experience for both the practiced and beginner painters.

Study program  .  One week Mon - Fri  .  9:30 - 12:30  .  3 hours daily  =  15 hours of instruction 
All classes on campus .  English and Spanish

All levels of experience welcome, however workshop one

Cate Cormack completed her Batchelor of Fine Arts and Diploma of Art Education from the School of the Art Institute (SAIC) of Chicago, U.S.A. in 1980. In 1978 and 1979 she was the recipient of two fellowship awards from SAIC, the most prestigious award given to outstanding graduate students. Cate has worked in most art mediums and had a high profile as a performance artist in the United States in the 1970’s and 1980’s. She had numerous solo art performances and participated in many group performances and exhibitions including The Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Minneapolis Institute of Art, Minnesota and various private galleries and performance spaces in Chicago and New York. Her performance work has been published in “High Performance” magazine and “Live Art”.


Thirty years ago, Cate immigrated to Australia where she has worked as a business mentor and life coach. Over the past twelve years she has returned to a full time art practice working and exhibiting predominantly in watercolor and mixed media. Her paintings reflect her attraction to the forces of nature of and are full of the raw textures and the rhythms of nature. Described as “macro and micro investigations of nature” Cates paintings transform energy and color into intriguing places for the viewer to linger.  

Now living and painting in San Miguel de Allende, Cate exhibits at Casa Diana on Recreo in Centro. Cate is enthusiastic art instructor who loves to share versatile painting techniques that stretch the practiced artist and challenge the beginner. She creates engaging learning environments for those who want to learn and explore art making.

One mixed color set of tube watercolors, or at minimum one tube each of:
Primary light yellow or hansa yellow medium 
Quinacridone magenta or quinacridone rose 
Phthalo blue or phthalocyanine cyan 


Plastic cups/containers for water
Minimum of two brushes:
     One large size 24 flat
     One small size 12 round
Box of facial tissues
Roll of paper towels 
Roll of plastic cling wrap
